Project #15

2 comments:

  1. An hour of reading a day? Maybe with a number involved. How select? random number generator perhaps?

    Need Standard identifiers

    You need leading questions.

Well organized. It will probably work but it depends on a lot of readers before a big group. Maybe mix discussion with reading every day?

  2. Kaitlyn,

Okay, so I like the basic idea of this project, but I have a problem with it at the same time. The majority of the project time is centered around students reading aloud to peers. Well, you need to consider the fact that some of your students may be dyslexic or uncomfortable reading aloud. Not everyone is good at pronouncing words or reading fast. Everyone reads at their own pace. In the fifth grade, there is going to be a small percentage of students who can actually keep the pace that you set. I think that a better alternative to having each student read aloud is to have Holes on audiobook and have the students read along at their own pace. If they can't keep up, that is fine because they will be able to listen. Even if they can keep up the audiobook would be a great tool to help with word knowledge. If a student comes across a word they don't know how to pronounce, the audiobook provides a safe alternative to stumbling through trying to say it in front of your peers.

Now, I understand where you were trying to go with this project because I think reading aloud does help with reading comprehension, but too much of a good thing makes for bad results.
